In Memory of WD Barnes (Pawpaw)

Gary, Darlene, W.D. and Don Barnes

WD, Winona and Gary Barnes enjoying a holiday meal at our house.

Brent had just made a comment about getting the "good stuff" for Christmas..."hard, cold, cash!" Pawpaw really liked that!

Winona and WD's 50th wedding anniversary celebration April 15, 2001

Pastor Don's dad went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 24, 2009. He was our last living parent. We had the privilege of caring for him (and three of the four other parents prior to him)with the awesome help of Hospice of SW Oklahoma the last month of his life in our home. Can't say enough good about Hospice! What a tremendous blessing they are to terminal patients! They provided just the help we needed, when we needed it! Also a big thank you to Comfort Keepers, a business that provides adult day care. They sent caring ladies to care for WD so Linda could go to church and other essential appointments. What a blessing to have caring people in our lives. Thanks to all the staff, board members and the entire congregation at LFA! You have been there for us and we so appreciate it. WD's memorial service will be Monday, July 27, 2009 at Lawton First Assembly at 12:30 p.m. and interment at Fort Sill National Cemetery between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Most of all, thanks to God for his Amazing Grace!!!

Farewell Lunch for Lindsay Barnes

Denice Erway, Lindsay Barnes, Jen Austin, Linda Barnes, and Debbie Pratt

Lindsay received a "going away" gift from the pastor's wives

Brent and Lindsay are moving to the Dallas area soon. Today several of the pastor's wives met together to say good-bye. Sunday, July 19th is their final service as staff members, but it won't be their last visit to Lawton and the church, if "Momma B" and "Pastor Dad" have anything to say about it! We know God has great things in store for them as they pursue His will for their lives.

I Love America 2009

The day began with warm humid temperatures. An awesome car show, kids' fun zone, a fabulous kid's gospel presentation, live bands, and a demonstration of feats of strength by Carey Leighow were all a part of this year's ILA celebration in Elmer Thomas Park, Lawton, OK. Clouds built in the afternoon, culminating with lightning, brisk wind gusts, and a downpour of rain just before the evening program was to begin. Most of the crowd scurried to their cars to "wait it out." After a "meeting of the minds" and about a 2 hour delay, it was determined that it was too wet for the choir and orchestra to perform. Reggie Dabbs took center stage and gathered the crowd back in. As he began to play his saxaphone and minister the gospel of Jesus Christ, the rains began to fall again! This time the crowd stood steady and after Reggie's 30 minute presentation he gave an altar call so that scores of people could respond. Respond they did! Only eternity will tell the number of people who made a decision to follow Christ that night, in the pouring rain! Following the prayer time the recorded music was piped through the sound system and the fireworks began. It was an awesome day...in spite of the rain delay!
